The key takeaway? Diversity is king. People who eat a wide variety of plants—aiming for 30 different types per week—tend to have a much more robust and diverse microbiome. This doesn’t just mean vegetables; it includes nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, pulses, and whole grains. This microbial diversity is directly linked to better blood sugar control and lower levels of visceral fat (the dangerous fat around your organs).

- Include Fermented Foods: Small amounts of kefir, kimchi, or live yoghurt introduce beneficial probiotics directly into the system.
